This story is inspired by the fanfiction The Auction, originally a Draco/Hermione alternate universe where Harry has died and Voldemort has taken over.

We are introduced to the divided countries of Evermore and Bomard, shaped by war, prophecy, and emerging magical systems.

🌹 Core Moment

Evermore and Bomard - Mind Magic and Heart Magic

This chapter works as a strong foundation for the story.

In this reimagined world, we are introduced to the continent of Moreland, primarily divided between Evermore and Bomard. We follow Briony, Princess of Evermore, as the story begins to unfold in a world shaped by war, prophecy, and magical systems that are still being understood.

Right away, we are introduced to concepts such as:

mind magic
heart magic
prophecy-driven leadership
the historical writings of Vindecci

It’s a world already in motion, and we are stepping into it during the collapse of Evermore following the death of King Rory and the uncertainty of what this new world will become.

I really liked how quickly the story throws us into the action. Experiencing everything through Briony’s point of view makes the devastation feel immediate and personal.

✨ Things I Noticed

Confidence in the Prophecy

In a world where magic exists, it makes sense that prophecy and fortune-telling would hold far more weight than they might in our own world.

What stood out to me, though, was the fragility underneath that certainty.

Everything feels built around a single predicted outcome, so there was:

no backup system
no Plan B
no emotional preparation for failure

Even Briony’s flowing, delicate clothing stood out to me against the political and emotional stakes of the moment. There’s a strange contrast between the seriousness of the situation and how unprepared everyone feels for the possibility that things could go wrong.

With Briony being the Princess of Evermore and Rory’s sister, and Cordelia being the future Queen, I was surprised they were not already hidden somewhere safer.

So when events begin to collapse, it feels sudden and devastating rather than gradual.

That’s what made this chapter feel quietly sad to me—not because prophecy exists, but because of how completely everyone trusted it.

Character Counterparts

As mentioned in the introduction, this story is adapted from a Harry Potter fanfiction, so comparisons naturally come to mind while reading.

Briony = Hermione
Cordelia = Ginny
Rory = Harry

Cordelia immediately felt bold and decisive, which reminded me a lot of Ginny’s energy in the original Harry Potter series.

Briony, meanwhile, feels like a character stepping into impossibly large shoes. Hermione has always been one of my favourite heroines, and honestly, I don’t think Harry would have survived without her.

Because of that, part of me instinctively wants Briony to mirror Hermione closely. But at the same time, I also want her to grow into her own identity and journey rather than simply becoming a parallel version of her.

At this point in the story, she feels sheltered and removed from the action, but we are also meeting her during one of the worst moments of her life following Rory’s death.

The Last Dragon

I always love dragons in fantasy stories. They immediately bring a sense of scale, danger, and mythology to a world.

Learning that this is the last dragon instantly made it feel important.

I’m really looking forward to learning more about its history and role within the story, but at the same time, its presence also makes the situation feel overwhelming. It adds to the sense that Evermore is facing a force far greater than itself.

🌙 Still Wandering…

I’d love to learn more about the prophecy and how it differs from the “Chosen One” prophecy we know from the Harry Potter universe.

I’m also curious about how prophecy functions politically in this world when so many people seem aware of it.

🌿 How This Chapter Lands

I really enjoyed this opening chapter. It felt like a strong introduction to both the world and the emotional stakes of the story.

I always enjoy stories that drop us directly into the action because it immediately creates a sense of urgency and desperation.

As someone who has read the original fanfiction and loves Harry Potter, I know I’ll naturally continue drawing comparisons between the two worlds. I remember doing this constantly during my first read.

But even while revisiting the story now, I’m beginning to appreciate this world, these characters, and this narrative on their own terms rather than simply as parallels.

And I’m hoping this read-along will help others enjoy this series in the same way too.
